just when you thought penguins fared better than the polar bears

I love penguins. I don't know why, I just love them. How about you? ohhh, welcome to the club guys, WE LOVE PENGUINS!
But, do you ever know that the penguins in Antarctica were in danger? do you ever know that just when you thought penguins fared better than the polar bears, actually they are endangered somehow with the deadly pesticide DDT, which had been banned in most countries more than 35 years ago?

just now, I realized it when my lecturer told us about it (even though, it is an old  fact).

first of all, I want to explain a little bit about DDT with u ols. DDT is identified as one from the 12 substances as POP's (persistent organic pollutants-a very toxic man-made organics compounds which persist in the
environment, bio-accumulate through the food web, and pose a risk of causing adverse effects to human health and the environment.) For more information about this, please search "the dirty dozen-POP's".
DDT~dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, were commonly used to control pests in agriculture and in building materials and  originally developed as a powerful multi-species pesticide that was used in World War Two to clear South Pacific islands of malaria-causing insects for U.S. troops and in Europe as a de-lousing powder. The United States banned the chemical in 1972 and banned worldwide in 1976due to its dangerous chemicals characteristics towards us and the environment, in this blog-the penguins.

you might think, how can this DDT reached the polar region? as I told you earlier, DDT is very persistent and not easily degraded over decades. This DDT along with a lot of other of these organic contamints, actually travel through the atmosphere toward the polar regions by a process of evaporation and then condensation in cooler climates.

As the case of the Adelie penguins, which first discovered in 1964 contained DDT. First noted in 1964, while the chemical was still widely used, the amount of DDT found in Adelie penguins rose in the 1970s and has stayed stable since then. FYI, the polar antarctica penguins are endangered up until now because of the usage of DDT a long long time ago.

Many people didn't realised about the effects of DDT and few more DIRTY DOZEN substances usage. They just simply using it without knowing properly the worse effect we might encounter in the future. The mother earth is dying because of these harmful and inappropriate usage of some pesticides. If only people care, we might able to conserved the great playground/home-our mother earth for our next generation.

If the Adelie penguins endangered by these POP's, so how about us? think about that....

p/s; next time I will write some old but factual info again, all about the effect of POP's usage..daaa
